EBBW Vale boxer Ashley Brace will make her professional debut at the Newport Centre in October – on the same bill that sees Jamie Arthur return to the ring.

The 24-year-old will become the only active professional female boxer in Wales after signing with Sanigar Promotions.

Brace beat Lynsey Holdaway to win the Welsh Elite Championships last year and was selected to represent Wales at the Commonwealth Games.

But a controversial ruling on her amateur status meant she was denied the chance to fight for gold in Glasgow and she has set her sights on a career as a pro.

Veteran Arthur did win Commonwealth Games gold for Wales in 2002 as well as claiming the Commonwealth super-bantamweight title as a pro.

And he will end three years of inactivity and return in the super-featherweight division in a six round contest in the Newport show.

The 35-year-old from Cwmbran hasn’t fought since a controversial stoppage against current world champion Scott Quigg in February 2012.

Also on the bill is Cefn Fforest fighter Robbie Turley, who trains at St Joseph’s gym in Newport with Tony Borg.

The Welsh and Celtic super-bantamweight champion will keep busy with a six rounder as he awaits a British title challenge.

And he’ll be joined on the bill by fellow Borg-trained boxers Danni Griffiths and Kyle Jones.

Headlining the 10-fight show on October 30, which will be broadcast live on Eurosport, is Cardiff’s Craig ‘The Kid’ Kennedy.

Light-heavyweights Nathan Thorley and Jermaine Asare, who won bronze medals for Wales at the 2014 and 2010 Commonwealth Games respectively, will also make their third professional outings.
