TRAINER Tony Borg says Lee Selby will face “anybody, anywhere” after defending his IBF world featherweight crown for a second time.

Selby retained his title at the O2 Arena on Saturday with a points victory over Eric Hunter, keeping alive hopes of a possible super-fight against IBF and WBA super-bantamweight king Carl Frampton or WBA super world featherweight maestro Leo Santa Cruz.

There is also talk of Selby, who trains out of St Joseph’s Boxing Club in Newport, taking on unbeaten Josh Warrington.

The Yorkshireman, like Frampton and Santa Cruz, has called out the Welshman in recent weeks and has made no secret of his desire to fight at Elland Road, the home of his beloved Leeds United.

As far as Borg is concerned, the Selby camp is ready to listen to offers, but he insists the opponent and location doesn’t matter to the Barry boxer.

“There are lots of challengers out there and people calling him out,” said Borg.

“At the end of the day, they’ve got to put some offers on the table, get a venue, get a date, and we’ll go to work.

“Lee will fight anybody, anywhere. He’s not a rough, tough guy off the street, he’s an educated and skilful boxer, and he’ll fight anywhere.”

Although he retained his title at the weekend, Selby was put on the canvas for the first time in his career.

Borg wasn’t worried by the knockdown, but admits there was an element of surprise when it happened in the second round.

“It was a surprise but I wasn’t concerned, I knew Lee was fine,” added Borg. “He looked over to the corner and we could see he was okay.

“He knew exactly where he was, and he also knows that if he is hurt to stay down and take a count.

“I asked him how he was feeling and he said he was fine, and I asked him if he was shaken and he said no.

“After that it was a case of getting on with the job, it was as simple as that.

“Mentally, in the back of his head he was thinking that this guy could bang a bit, and we had told Lee to box, keep it long for four or five rounds, and then start to wear him down.

“Hunter was clever, a very clever fighter, well-schooled and just a tough kid, so he wasn’t going anywhere.

“Lee just had to keep getting the rounds in the bag, win the next one, win the one after that, and don’t go looking to end it.”
