LEE Selby has given brother Andrew a huge boost ahead of his tilt at the vacant British flyweight crown, declaring that it’s “more than possible” he could be a world champion by this time next year.

Andrew goes for his first major title as a pro on Saturday night when he locks horns with Louis Norman at Cardiff’s Ice Arena Wales, in what is just the fifth fight for the Welshman since stepping up to the paid ranks.

And not only will he get the chance to claim the Lonsdale Belt on home soil, the St Joseph’s star is also set to strut his stuff in front of a terrestrial television audience on Channel 5.

Lee, the reigning IBF world featherweight champion, is backing his brother to end the contest inside the scheduled 12 rounds, and sees no reason why Andrew can’t go all the way to the top too.

“I’ve been all around the world boxing, training and watching the best fighters, and I’ve been around boxing since eight years of age, and he has got to be one of the most naturally talented fighters I’ve seen,” said Lee.

“He does everything well. He’s fast, he’s exciting, he can box, he can fight, and on his day he can beat anybody.”

He added: “He has been in the gym with me when I’ve been in the 12-round training camps fighting for major titles and has seen the work I’ve put in.

“He has put the same work in for this fight.

“He’s experienced in the championship fights because he has done the training camps, he has come into the ring, and he has held the flag.

“I think the public have written off Louis Norman a bit, he’s a very capable fighter, but Andrew is exceptional.

“It could be a close fight early on and then as the rounds go on Andrew’s class will show, and I think he could stop it.”

And when asked what he thought of Barry McGuigan’s claim that Andrew could become a world champion within the next 12 months, Lee said: “It’s more than possible.”
