BLACKWOOD’S Hari Miles has accepted an offer to fight former Commonwealth champion Sam Sexton, meaning he won’t challenge for the vacant Welsh heavyweight title next month.

Miles and Cynon Valley slugger Dorian Darch were due to headline the Sanigar Events show in Merthyr Tydfil on July 23 – it was set to be the first contest for the Welsh strap in 27 years.

However, Miles will instead face Sexton, who is hoping for a shot at the British belt later this year, in Norwich on July 15.

Miles believes the chance of a meeting with Sexton was one he had to take given the doors that could open for him were he to win in Norfolk.

But at the same time he has not ruled out the possibility of facing Darch further down the line.

“This fight with Sexton is one that has been on the cards for a while,” said Miles, 30. “It’s a big chance for me to step in and take my opportunity with both hands.

“I spoke to Dorian and he understands the position I’m in. Our fight sells itself so maybe it could happen in a couple of months.”
