BOXING fans across the world will have their eyes fixed on the Principality Stadium tonight as Anthony Joshua and Joseph Parker meet in a massive heavyweight showdown.

But Newport’s Sean McGoldrick is also fighting in Cardiff along with fellow Welshmen and former St Joseph’s stablemates Joe Cordina and Morgan Jones.

And bantamweight McGoldrick wants himself, Cordina and Jones, all of whom are unbeaten in the pro ranks, to deliver displays in the ring that can benefit them in the long run.

“I really want to showcase my talent on a big stage,” said the 26-year-old, who faces Southampton’s Ricky Little over four rounds.

“It’s a massive opportunity for me and I’m really grateful for it.

“Hopefully all the Welsh lads on the bill can box well and it will tempt Eddie Hearn (the show’s promoter) to put on a show based around us.

“This is a chance for us to show what we can do, and if we do it well enough, and the public like what they see, there could be a demand for more shows.”

He added: “In boxing you have to take one fight at a time and this is my next fight.

“If I keep improving and developing then offers could start coming in, but I’m happy to wait for my chance.”

According to the 2010 Commonwealth Games champion, training under coach Tony Borg couldn’t have gone any better.

McGoldrick has benefited from sparring with the likes of IBF world featherweight king Lee Selby, who is getting ready to fight Josh Warrington in May, and Swansea’s Jay Harris.

“I’ve been working hard in the gym,” said McGoldrick. “Training has gone well, I’ve had some brilliant sparring.

“In terms of my preparation, everything has gone perfectly.”

As for the main event, McGoldrick can only see one winner, and it’s not the man from New Zealand.

“I know Anthony Joshua from my amateur days,” he said. “I’ve got a feeling he’s going to stop Parker early.

“It might be cagey for one or two rounds then Joshua will finish him in five.”

Meanwhile, Kody Davies, who has signed a promotional deal with David Haye, Lee Churcher, Lance Cooksey Jnr, Mitch Buckland and Ricky Rowlands are all set to appear on a bill in Ebbw Vale next Saturday.

Davies is also due to fight on the undercard of Haye’s rematch with Tony Bellew at the O2 Arena on May 5.

And Tony Dixon has had to pull out of his clash with Pontypool’s Kieran Gething for the vacant Welsh welterweight title in Cardiff on April 14 because of an injury.
