NEWBRIDGE boxer Bradley Pryce is back on the road and back in the ring tonight as he takes on undefeated Sam Sheedy in Doncaster.

Pryce, now 33 and with 17 defeats on his record, returns to action less than six weeks after being on the wrong end of a close points defeat against Lee Markham in London.

He has also fought in Denmark, Bulgaria and Leeds over the past 13 months but his only victory in that time came in Newport against Raimonds Sniedze in March this year.

Pryce is confident he can land a knockout punch on Sheedy, however, and he admits that anything other than victory would end any hope of him challenging for major titles again.

“It [the Markham loss] was disappointing,” said Pryce. “I felt I won the fight, I boxed good and got off to the best start I’ve had in my career, I think.

“I took a couple of the early rounds, which is not like me. The end left a sick taste in my mouth but next time, it won’t go to points.

“I can’t allow it to go to the scorecards. We won’t be going in to the last round. After the last fight, I felt robbed and that’s not going to happen this time. I’m going there to take him out, knock him out.”

The former Calzaghe gym member and Commonwealth light-middleweight champion knows that beating Sheedy is a must if he is to challenge for major honours again.

“This is the fight that tells me where I’m at,” Pryce told BoxingWales.com. “If I can’t beat this guy, forget titles. I still think about titles, even though I’ve got quite a lot of losses on my record.

“I know on my day, I’m still good enough. With this fight, I’m planning on another nice win and getting back up there.

“I think he’s ranked 25th in Britain with BoxRec and that’s because he hasn’t boxed no-one who anyone has heard of.

“Obviously, he wants to break in to the top ten and I’m ranked tenth, he wants that spot and go on to fight for major titles but my job is simple – take him out.”
