EBBW Vale boxer Ashley Brace has been cleared to return to boxing after having her lifetime ban lifted by the Amateur International Boxing Association, writes Andrew Penman.

The 22-year-old was named as one of the first three female boxers ever to represent Wales at the Commonwealth Games back in May.

But the AIBA wrecked her dream of gold in Glasgow by declaring that Brace was ineligible to compete due to her kickboxing background.

“We’ve been told that Ashley’s ban has been lifted and that Wales want her back in the team,” said Simon Weaver, Brace’s coach at the Torfaen Warriors Amateur Boxing Club in Cwmbran.

“It is good news that we’ve proved that she was never a professional kickboxer but it’s come far too late.

“Ashley was fighting at 51kg and now she’s up to 60kg and more,” he added.

“I know that her father wants a meeting with the Welsh Amateur Boxing Association to see what they can do to help her.”

Torfaen Warriors and Cwmbran ABC are holding their annual joint dinner show at the Parkway Hotel in Cwmbran tonight with the boxing due to start at 8.30pm.

Tickets are available on the door tonight for £10 for 13 bouts, including the clash between two Welsh champions in Crimea Jenkins and Rhys Edwards.

Weaver added: “We are short of referees and judges in the Eastern Division and anyone who wishes to help out can contact me on 07739 156503.”
