CEFN Fforest boxer Robbie Turley will be back on the big stage when he takes on Panamanian ace Anselmo Moreno live on Sky Sports later this month.

Turley, who was set to fight on the Newport Centre bill on Friday, March 13, will instead face former WBA bantamweight world champion Moreno in Sheffield on March 28.

The eight-round contest will be on the undercard of local hero Kell Brook’s defence of his IBF world welterweight title.

Turley, who trains with Tony Borg at St Joseph’s gym in Newport, pushed rising star Carl Frampton all the way when they met in June 2011.

But the 28-year-old was forced out of the sport for three years due to complications with a routine brain scan and only returned to the ring last summer.

And, having won a British title eliminator in December, Turley looks set for a domestic title shot soon but he says the opportunity to face Moreno was too good to turn down.

“I’m buzzing,” said the former Welsh and Celtic super-bantamweight champion. “Moreno has got an exceptional record and so many world title fights on his record.

“I’ve had three years out of my career and a lot of ups and downs but it’s great to be back fighting at this level.

“He’s the type of fighter I want to be mixing with because I want to push my career as far as I can go.

“People in Wales know what I can do but now I get to show the rest of Britain again.

“They’ve probably forgotten me from the Frampton fight but I want to remind people of what a good fighter I am.”

Moreno, aged 29, has won 35 of his 39 fights and has also held the WBA Super World bantamweight title and fought for the WBC World super-bantamweight title.

But, since beating Jamie Speight in Bristol before Christmas, Turley has kept himself in good shape and he says he will be going for the win despite taking the fight at short notice.

“Obviously I need to step it up but I believe in my ability and I’m not going there to lose,” he said.

“I’m going to make it tough for him and fighting better opponents brings out the best in me so I want to prove that again.

“I’m not doing this for the money, it’s because I’m hungry,” he added.

“I know he’s a top fighter and I won’t look at him too much because it will probably make me nervous but I’m not nervous now, I’m excited.”
