ENZO Calzaghe has blasted “brawler,” Carl Froch, insisting he’s tired of the Cobra fishing for a fight with his son and former two-weight world champion Joe Calzaghe.

The duo rekindled their bitter rivalry over the weekend on Twitter, with Froch and Calzaghe trading barbs after Calzaghe said he believed James DeGale would now beat the Nottingham fighter.

Froch unsuccessfully called out Calzaghe for years and claimed the Newbridge ace ‘ducked’ the chance to fight him.

That led to Calzaghe blasting his rival in Monday’s Argus Sport, insisting that Froch did actually have the chance to fight with the undefeated two-weight world champion, only to turn it down.

And despite being inactive since 2009, Calzaghe would still beat Froch even today, according to father and trainer Enzo.

The Sardinian also blasts Froch for failing to share the full picture with the public.

“I think we’ve just had enough of this suggestion from Carl that Joe didn’t want to fight him, or was avoiding him,” he said.

“It’s a combination of reasons why they never fought.

“We can’t pretend; a key reason was that Carl was a nobody, he’d beaten no one and he wouldn’t have been a big ticket seller.

“But at the end of the day, before Joe fought in America twice, he was getting offered so many fights and we were looking at what could make the biggest impact.

“I know Frank Warren thought a fight with Froch could do well in Britain, but Carl didn’t want to know.

“I think it was discussed three or four times. But every time Carl didn’t want to know.

“So for him to say Joe ducked him, that’s just total b*******.”

Calzaghe also believes it is time for Froch, the IBF and WBA super middleweight champion, to stop worrying about his legacy and target improving it.

“Carl is the best thing since sliced bread, the best and biggest boxer in the country, but that’s all in his own mind,” he said.

“The reality is that he’s barely a boxer, he’s a brawler, he’s got power and all the heart in the world, but he’s not tactical.

“He’s done brilliantly to have the career he has. I’m not sure how many top calibre fighters he’s beaten – and I wouldn’t count Mikkel Kessler who was past his best – but he’s lasted well and good luck to him.

“But the fact he’s still talking about Joe and still putting down guys like DeGale and George Groves, it speaks about him as a man.

“He’s constantly talking, making sure people don’t forget him, which is why it isn’t believable that he’s planning to retire.

“He loves the spotlight.”
