BLACKWOOD boxer Craig Evans wants Thomas Stalker to come to Wales if the pair are to complete a trilogy of European title fights.

The Frank Warren fighters have twice fought for the WBO European lightweight belt at Manchester Arena with both bouts ending in draws.

In the first meeting in October, Stalker was aggrieved as the judges scored it 97-93 to him, 96-94 to Evans and 95-95.

But on Saturday it was Evans’ turn to be disappointed as the judges scored the bout a majority draw with two having it 95-95 while the third had it 96-94 in favour of the St Joseph’s star.

Stalker wasn’t as despondent with the result as he was the first time around – admitting that it was probably fair – and calling for a second rematch in the New Year.

“I thought the first fight I won clear but this time around it was a lot closer,” the 31-year-old told the Liverpool Echo.

“I didn’t perform to the way I did in the first fight. A few people said I won this one, others said he won it, but I didn’t feel it at the end like I did in the first fight.

“Regardless of that, I’m hoping to do it again and have a trilogy but how crazy is that – two draws.”

He added: “I’m going to have a little break now because I’ve been on it hard for three camps now. The body needs a rest; it’s a lot of time in the gym.

“There are loads of good fights out there but the main thing is people are enjoying my fights with Evans.

“I’m giving the fans value for money and boxing is a value for money sport so I think that’s why a third is likely.”

The Stalker camp is keen for the third meeting to be in February but Tony Borg, Evans’ trainer at St Joes in Newport, is not so sure.

“Craig is disappointed because he clearly won the fight by two or three rounds,” said Borg.

“He’s pleased with the performance but to not get the decision was a bit of a kick in the balls, really.

“They knew they had lost the fight and they’re talking about a third one in February.

“But they have to make Craig a good offer because we’ve already done it twice already up there.

“If we can bring him to Newport or Cardiff on a show with Liam Williams and Enzo Maccarinelli then great.

“But it has to be right for Craig because Stalker is a lot bigger than him and Craig could just go back to super-featherweight.”
