LEE Selby’s trainer Tony Borg expects the Welshman to defend his IBF world featherweight title against American Eric Hunter at the O2 Arena in London on April 9.

Selby’s promoter Eddie Hearn revealed last weekend that the fight would be taking place in the UK after an intermediary of the latter’s Matchroom Promotions won the purse bid.

If the fight is confirmed for the O2 – Cardiff in May is also a possibility – it would see Selby return to where he won the belt last May.

“It’s looking like a strong possibility for the O2 on April 9,” said Borg, who coaches Selby at St Joseph’s Boxing Club in Newport.

“Lee won the title in the O2, he went across to Arizona to defend it, and he defended the British title in Ireland, so he’s not bothered where he fights.

“He’s a Welshman and he’d like to defend his title in Wales, so hopefully when the time comes it will be in the Principality Stadium.”

On Selby’s opponent, Borg added: “We’ve had a good look at him. We worked out that he’d be in the picture and with Al Haymon advising him it was more likely to be an American opponent.

“He’s very good all round, he’s a good puncher, and he’s got a good pedigree from the amateurs.

“He’s good but Lee is exceptional and I think exceptional beats good on the night.

“I’m certain Lee’s going to come back with that title, he’s not going to give it up to anybody.”

Meanwhile, Selby has said he would happily take on Carl Frampton after the Irish fighter called out the Welshman following his defeat of Scott Quigg last Saturday.
