ROBBIE Turley’s dreams of landing a shot at the British super-bantamweight title suffered a major blow on Saturday night when the Welshman lost on points to unbeaten Tommy Ward.

Ward was given the verdict on all three judges’ scorecards (97-93, 98-92, 96-94) at Rainton Meadows Arena near Sunderland and is now set to face British champion Jazza Dickens.

Cefn Fforest’s Turley battled bravely during the 10-round final eliminator but Ward, who took his record to 17 straight victories without defeat, was the class act throughout.

The 21-year-old was full value for the win while Turley’s cause wasn’t helped when he had a point deducted in the seventh round for holding.

It will now be back to the drawing board for Tony Borg-trained Turley as he assesses where to go next.

Meanwhile, Turley's fellow St Joseph's fighters Morgan Jones and Kyle Jones both picked up wins at the Valley Fighters show in Merthyr.

Light-heavyweight Morgan Jones took his unbeaten record to five with a second round stoppage of Charlie Brown.

Super-lightweight Kyle Jones is now four from four following a points victory over Fonz Alexander.
