AFTER all the hard work he has put in over the last few months, Newport’s Lee Churcher is not thinking of anything other than a win on home turf on Saturday night.

Churcher challenges Hungarian Balazs Horvath for the vacant WBF Intercontinental middleweight title over a scheduled 10 rounds at Pill Millennium Centre.

With confidence high, Churcher, 35, cannot wait to lock horns with his rival, and the Welshman certainly has no plans to take his time when the first bell sounds.

Horvath, a year older than Churcher, only had his first fight as a professional in March 2013, yet since then he has managed to fit in some 40 bouts.

He has won 24 and lost 16 of those, compared to Churcher's 12 victories, three defeats and one draw from his 16 outings in the paid ranks since June 2009.

Horvath is ranked a lot higher than the home fighter but having seen footage of his opponent, Churcher is in no doubt that he will have too much for the 36-year-old to deal with.

“I really can’t wait and I feel terrific,” said Churcher. “If I can win this I’ll be back to where I want to be.

“I’m not thinking about anything other than a win.

“I’ve gone through so much in training it has got to be a win.

“I’m going in there to end it early and he’s going to feel how hard I can hit.

“It’s going to be tough for him. It will be a hostile environment.

“I’ve seen a few videos of him and I think I’m a much better fighter.”

Assessing his mindset going into the contest, he added: “I used to doubt myself before and when I got tired my mind would go walkies. I feel so much more confident now.

“I’ve had a few injuries but the way I’ve got through them has given me an extra boost.

“Boxing can be a lonely sport so when you have injuries and get over them it helps you psychologically.”

The Churcher-Horvath encounter tops Lights Out Promotions’ nine-fight bill which includes two professional and seven semi-professional bouts.

Newport duo Gareth Hurley and Jake McCoy also clash tonight while Martyn Silbor, Adam Cueto and Rikki Fortuna are the other local fighters on show.

Saturday's fights: Lee Churcher v Balazs Horvath, Carwyn Herbert v Matt Scriven, Ryan Evans v Aaron Sutton, Gareth Hurley v Jake McCoy, Adam Cueto v Kevin Barker, Rikki Fortuna v Simon Morrell, Stephen Spooner v Will Cairns, Martyn Silbor v James Herring, Tyson Mochan v Wes Dolan.
