CWMCARN ABC’s Caitlin Cromie is looking forward to representing her country on home soil after claiming gold at the Welsh Junior Championships.

The 15-year-old secured a unanimous points decision when beating Bridgend ABC’s Dakota Quantock in the 46kg A class final.

It was Cromie’s second win over Quantock in a matter of weeks, though the first meeting between the two was a lot closer than the clash at the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff.

The same venue hosts the Three Nations Championships, which features junior and youth contests, on April 30-May 1, and Cromie will be there as she bids for more success in the ring.

“Caitlin came to us this season,” said Becky Price, the former amateur star who coaches the teenager alongside Nick Higgins.

“She was previously coached by Tony Williams, who used to be the coach for the Wales team.

“Caitlin is great. She has progressed a lot and is hitting harder now than she was when she came to us.

“She is really dedicated to boxing and performed very well to win the final.

“She had boxed the same girl about four weeks earlier and won on a split decision in a close contest.

“Caitlin knew it was going to be a tough one in Cardiff because the first one could have gone either way.

“It’s the first time she has won anything like this and now she will represent Wales at the end of the month.”

Cromie is joined in the Wales junior team for the Three Nations Championships by Deri Bull (Heads of the Valley) and Joel Manning (Torfaen Warriors).

Meanwhile, St Joseph's duo Henry Price and John Coffey have been selected to represent Wales in the youth event alongside Pontypool pair Shane Jones and Rhys Jones.

David Walker (Pontypool), Chloe Thomas (Torfaen Warriors), Rosie Eccles (Chepstow) and Lauren Price (Pontypool) will take part in the senior section of the championships.

Eccles and Price have also been picked for Wales' Elite Commonwealth Games 2018 squad.
