ST JOSEPH’S fighters Mitch Buckland and Morgan Jones both maintained their unblemished records at the Ice Arena Wales, but there was a defeat inside the distance for stablemate Frankie Borg.

Buckland hadn’t fought for seven months going into his six-round super-lightweight bout with France’s Mohamed Larabi in Cardiff on Saturday night.

However, the 22-year-old blew away any cobwebs that may have been lingering, delivering an assured performance to clinch a routine victory on points (60-54).

Taking his win-loss record to 11-0, Buckland dominated from the start and displayed some excellent footwork as Larabi was totally outclassed.

Buckland, a two-time Celtic champion, will now be looking to get a British title shot, ideally later this year.

Meanwhile, Jones, 25, was also far too good for his opponent, Englishman Richard Harrison, in their light-heavyweight bout over four rounds.

Harrison’s defence was non-existent at times and he was put out of his misery when referee Reece Carter stopped the fight with 45 seconds left in the third round.

Jones, who had been due to face the much more dangerous Eric Mokonzo, exuded confidence throughout as he cruised to a seventh triumph in as many fights.

As for middleweight Borg, he lost for the fourth time in a row following a stoppage defeat to unbeaten Conrad Cummings from Northern Ireland.

Much is expected of Cummings, but Borg, who turns 36 next month, more than held his own in the early stages.

He was doing well in the fifth round until a couple of swift Cummings blows left him on the canvas and facing a county from referee Martin Williams.

And the official stopped the bout 79 seconds into the last of the six rounds with Borg’s legs wobbling after a clean left had rocked him back on his heels.

Also at the Cyclone Promotions event, Lee Haskins defended his IBF world bantamweight crown against Ivan Morales and Cardiff’s Craig Kennedy got off the floor twice to edge out Belgium’s Joel Djeko for the vacant IBF international cruiserweight title.

Mountain Ash’s Tony Dixon suffered a first-round knockout defeat to Paddy Gallagher in their scrap for the vacant Celtic welterweight strap, while Cardiff’s Nathan Thorley and Scotland’s Josh Taylor also secured wins.
