PROMOTER Paul Boyce reckons this summer’s clash between Mitch Buckland and Chris Jenkins has the potential to be “one of the most exciting all-Welsh fights in years”.

St Joseph’s Buckland will make the first defence of his Celtic super-lightweight title when he faces Jenkins in Swansea on July 2.

The fight is also set to be an eliminator for the British crown, currently held by Tyrone Nurse after he defeated Jenkins last November.

“These are two of Welsh boxing’s brightest talents and it is great that they are meeting up with a championship on the line,” said Jenkins’ manager Boyce.

“Both boxers will have an eye on challenging for the British crown and whoever comes out on top will be in a strong position to make a play for it.

“It has all the ingredients to be one of the most exciting all-Welsh fights in years.

“Chris will have a point to prove after narrowly failing to take the British title against Tyrone Nurse, while Mitch will be determined to stay champion and continue his upward path.”

Jenkins will make his first appearance since linking up with Cwmbran trainer Gary Lockett, while Pontypool’s Kieron Gething features on the undercard.

Meanwhile, Nurse defends his Lonsdale belt against Willie Limond this Saturday.
