BRITISH and Commonwealth super-welterweight champion Liam Williams has predicted a night of pain for WBO Inter-Continental king Gary Corcoran when the two meet in Cardiff next month.

Undefeated Williams, trained by Cwmbran’s Gary Lockett, will defend both of his titles against Corcoran in a grudge match at the Ice Arena Wales on July 16.

Welshman Williams is raring to get his pursuit of a world title back on track after injury limited him to one fight in 2015, a second-round stoppage of Kris Carslaw which saw him claim the vacant British crown.

The Church Village ace returned to action last Saturday following a break of more than five months – the 24-year-old blasted out Gustavo Alberto Sanchez inside three rounds in Liverpool.

Looking ahead to his clash with Corcoran, he said: “To be honest with you, I don’t like the man at all.

“He’s given me a bit of lip on Twitter a few times and I’m looking forward to putting some hurt on him.

“I’ll have the home crowd behind me and I’m going to send him home with his tail between his legs.

“Gary thinks a lot of himself and I’m not sure why. He’s a confident man but I’m not sure where he gets that confidence from.

“On his day he can be dangerous but I’m going to batter him, he won’t be able to handle my power.”

Known as the ‘Hell Raiser’ for his ferocious fighting style, Corcoran, 25, has ripped through his first 15 opponents, claiming six knockouts along the way.

“Williams is the fight I’ve wanted for a long time – I know I’ve got the beating of him,” he said.

“I know I’m a better fighter than him and I’m going to prove it. He doesn’t have as good an engine as me and it will show on the night.”

Blackwood’s Craig Evans, Lockett-trained Alex Hughes and Zack Davies, Jay Harris and Blaenavon debutant Mason Jones all feature on the undercard.

Promoter Frank Warren has also managed to attract Cuban Guillermo Rigondeaux, considered one of the world’s best pound-for-pound boxers, to the Welsh capital.

The two-time Olympic gold medallist will defend his WBA Super world super-bantamweight title against Liverpool’s British champion Jazza Dickens.

Meanwhile, after Mitch Buckland’s defence of his Celtic super-lightweight crown against Chris Jenkins in Swansea on July 2 was postponed, Blackwood’s Hari Miles has revealed he is set to face former Commonwealth heavyweight champion Sam Sexton in Norwich on July 15.
