HARI Miles has promised to deliver a knockout blow to Sam Sexton’s hopes of another British heavyweight title shot.

Sexton is eyeing up a third tilt at the Lonsdale belt but Blackwood’s Miles wants to derail the former Commonwealth champion’s bid.

Miles will get the opportunity to do just that when he and Sexton meet in the latter’s home city of Norwich tonight.

A Prizefighter finalist in 2013, Miles would love to deprive Sexton of an early birthday present three days before his rival turns 32.

And Miles, 30, firmly believes he has the ability to surprise Sexton, who is looking to use the six-round contest as a warm-up for a potential British title fight later this year.

“It’s a massive chance for me,” said Miles. “I’m quite edgy going into most of my fights but I’ve never been as relaxed before a fight as I am for this one.

“Sam Sexton is looking at fighting for the British but I think I am going to give him a big surprise, and if I win that will put me in the picture.”

Assessing Sexton, he added: “I’ve watched him for years and in the last few years the only people he has fought are journeymen.

“He hasn’t budged any of them and they have gone the distance with him. He hasn’t got that knockout punch and that means he is going to be in a lot of trouble against me.

“He’ll know I’ve been stopped twice with body shots but I’ve done a lot of work on that.

“I don’t see this fight going the distance, I really believe I’m going to stop him.”

Other than that Prizefighter final three years ago, the Welshman is yet to contest a title fight during his nine-year career in the paid ranks.

And, despite losing more bouts (10) than he has won (nine), Miles feels he has still got a lot left to give the sport.

“I think I’m coming into my prime as a heavyweight,” he said. “I’m only going to get better.

“Hopefully I will be able to show what I can do against Sam Sexton and then see what happens.”
