MORGAN Jones insists he is more than prepared to be patient when it comes to getting his first title fight in the pro ranks.

The unbeaten light-heavyweight will look to enhance his growing reputation tomorrow night when he chases an eighth straight win in Merthyr Tydfil.

Jones, trained by Tony Borg at St Joseph’s Boxing Club in Newport, faces veteran journeyman Elvis Dube over four rounds on the Sanigar Events show at Rhydycar Leisure Centre.

Nearly 38, Derby’s Dube has lost 50 of his 59 contests, with his last outing resulting in a points defeat to Cardiff’s Nathan Thorley in May.

Jones, 25, has fond memories of fighting in Merthyr – he won there on his professional debut and in March when he made it six victories on the trot.

“This will be my third time boxing in Merthyr,” he said. “It’s a really good venue, especially for the spectators.

“It’s not that far from where I live so I’ll have a lot of support for this one, and I want to put on a good show.

“It’s a chance for me to get everyone’s attention and give them something to enjoy.

“Training has gone really well and I’m looking to take what I have done in the gym into the fight.

“I’m throwing a nice first combination and that’s something I haven’t done in the past.

“That’s something I really want to show the fight fans in Merthyr on Saturday night.”

As to what lies ahead, Jones is hoping to challenge for a championship belt before too long, but at the same time he is happy to wait for the right opportunity.

“Chris Sanigar, my manager and promoter, has got everything mapped out and I’m in safe hands with him,” added Jones, who lives in Aberdare but was born in South Africa.

“I think everything will fall into place at the right time, I just want to be ready for this fight on the weekend.

“I would be ready for a Welsh title fight if one came up, but I’m not in the business of chasing guys for fights.

“I’d like to get things in place for a fight with Tobias Webb later this year, it’s just a case of what we need to do to make that happen.

“I want to get to a British title as quickly as I can but at the same time I understand that Chris knows the best way of getting to that.

“Sometimes it’s not always about fighting the biggest guys, you have to build up to those with fights like the one I’ve got on Saturday.”
