WELSHMAN Lee Selby could be set for a mouth-watering super-fight with Carl Frampton.

St Joseph’s star Selby was in New York on Saturday night to see Belfast’s Frampton dethrone WBA world featherweight champion Leo Santa Cruz on points.

Frampton kept his unbeaten record intact at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, coming out on top on two of the three judges’ scorecards, with the third deeming the contest a draw.

In defeating the Mexican, Frampton, fighting at featherweight for the first time, became a two-weight world champion.

He unified the IBF and WBA super-bantamweight titles when beating Scott Quigg in February.

Selby, the IBF featherweight number one, is keen for a showdown with Frampton, who is managed by Barry McGuigan – the latter also won the WBA featherweight belt back in 1985.

“I don’t think there’s a rematch clause in place, but it would be a great fight, one I’d be happy to do,” said Frampton on the possibility of facing Santa Cruz again.

“I’d love to bring him over to Belfast. We could sell out a stadium, but we’d need the right time of year.

“Lee Selby is a great fighter, someone I respect and one of the best UK fighters. That’s a fight that interests me, there’s Gary Russell, all these guys.

“I just want to be involved in big fights, memorable fights. I don’t need to be disrespectful to guys, I just want to get on with it.”

Meanwhile, another option for Selby could be Josh Warrington, who dominated Irishman Patrick Hyland in Leeds to defend his WBC International featherweight strap.

“If Lee Selby wants it, he can have it, but he isn’t the only route and we have many options available,” Warrington told Sky Sports after the fight.
