IF Bradley Pryce had to pick a song for tonight’s ring walk at York Hall that best summed up his preparation for the clash with Justin Menzie then it would have to be My Way.

Newbridge super-welterweight Pryce, 35, insists he has done everything his way in readiness for an eight-rounder against an inexperienced but unbeaten opponent.

Menzie, who returned to the ring in July after a two-year ban, has only fought three times in the pro ranks but fancies his chances of making it four from four in Bethnal Green.

But former Commonwealth champion Pryce says his training has been “spot on”, and he reckons a lot of that is down to him doing what he wants to do.

“I’m feeling good,” he said. “Training has gone really well and with this camp I’ve done it all my own way. Everything has been down to me.

“I have Richie Garner in my corner but he has had work commitments so we haven’t had a chance to get in the gym together.

“I’ve been doing a lot with Mark Jenkins at the Knockout Gym, I’ve trained with Tony Borg at St Joseph’s, and Gavin Rees has helped me out with some boys for sparring.

“I’ve been in control of my training and done things when I want to do them. Before, I’ve always had someone telling me what time to be there, but it has been different for this fight.”

Pryce says he doesn’t like to study his rivals in too much detail but admits he “didn’t see anything really special” when looking at one of 33-year-old Menzie’s fights online.

Tonight’s contest is the first of two in the space of three weeks for the Welshman, who is set to face James Metcalf in Liverpool on October 7.

“I saw a press conference for the Liverpool show and my opponent reckons I’m disrespecting him by taking this fight at York Hall,” added 57-fight veteran Pryce. “But I’m confident in what I’m doing.

“I don’t see why winning these two fights can’t get me a title shot at either the British or the Commonwealth.”
