TORFAEN Warriors returned from The King of The Ring tournament in Sweden with one gold and two silver medals – although the club will feel they should have come back with another top prize.

Sebastopol 19-year-old Joel Clark claimed victory in the senior 60kg class A final with a unanimous points verdict over London’s Iain Gill (Hoddesdon ABC).

This was Clark’s first time abroad but he showed few nerves in out-boxing his tall and rangy opponent.

Clark boxed on the counter throughout and Gill’s frustrations boiled over when he received a warning for holding in the third and final round.

Joel Manning had a bye to the 70kg junior final before losing on a split decision to a Swedish boxer.

Meanwhile, there was controversy at the end of the 63kg junior final between Torfaen’s Crimea Jenkins and home fighter Sami Semmo.

Jenkins had already beaten Sweden’s Nebil Ibrahim with a second-round stoppage when he took on Semmo for the gold medal.

The Welsh youngster took control of the bout from the first to the last bell, catching his opponent with clean shots in the process.

He was announced the winner at the end of the contest only to see the decision reversed by the officials in favour of the host country’s boxer.

“Although we clearly should have come back with two golds I am very proud of our results,” said Warriors coach Simon Weaver.
