KIERAN Gething is loving life as a first-time dad following the birth of daughter Isla nearly six weeks ago – and a maiden win in boxing’s paid ranks would be the icing on the cake.

The 22-year-old admits his introduction to fatherhood has been “easier than most” thanks to a first two weeks where his little one “slept all the time”.

Gething, originally from Abergavenny but now living in Pontypool, is quick to pay tribute to partner Emma Williams, who he will marry in September.

And it looks like being just as busy in the ring for him over the next few months as it is outside it, with as many as four fights potentially in store before the super-welterweight ties the knot.

After a controversial draw with journeyman Kevin McCauley on debut, Gething suffered a points defeat to Aaron Sutton last Friday.

So, when he does return to action, getting off the mark as a professional is obviously going to be his number one priority.

And he could well have the chance to right a wrong in that next outing – McCauley is expected to be his opponent again at Weston-super-Mare’s Hutton Moor Leisure Centre on April 29.

The duo’s previous meeting last November was also in the Somerset seaside town, although it took place at the Grand Pier on that occasion.

“I think I’m going to be fighting Kevin McCauley again,” he said. “I’m hoping he will do six rounds with me this time.

“I’m looking forward to it and it’s a chance to set the record straight after the first fight, which I feel I won clearly.

“That fight was a bigger learning curve for me than the one last week.

“McCauley tied me up a bit last time so I’ll try to shut him out and put the pressure on a lot more.”

On that four-round loss to Sutton in Bristol, the Paul Boyce-managed boxer added: “I was very disappointed.

“I took it at three days’ notice but was happy with how I boxed, I cut the boy up and had him rocking a few times.

“It was a good scrap, probably the best of the night, and it was a good opportunity for me to be on a Sanigar Events show.

“A friend of mine who’s a referee watched it back and felt it should have gone two rounds the other way.”

Gething, who thanked sponsors DT Contracting for their support, could also be appearing at Swansea's Brangwyn Hall in May, as well as on shows in June and July.
