NEWPORT’S Lee Churcher will seek clarification over the results of a brain scan before planning for his next fight.

The 36-year-old pulled out of the Cyclone Promotions show in Cardiff last Friday after being unable to get a second opinion on the outcome of pre-fight tests.

He had been set to make his comeback with the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) at the Motorpoint Arena following four bouts under the jurisdiction of the Malta Boxing Commission.

The BBBoC re-licensed the former Welsh champion in March, nearly five years on from his previous outing on one of their bills.

However, according to Churcher, a scan before the Cardiff event showed the “lines in between the lobes were a little bit bigger” compared to last year.

“The scan came back showing changes in the images between last year and this year,” he said.

“I was getting headaches as well, which is quite unusual for me.

“I wanted to get a second and third opinion but I couldn’t get hold of the images in time for the fight.

“The report said there was no scientific evidence showing it was dangerous to fight, but with the headaches, which could have been stress or dehydration, there was no point risking it.

“I also had an elbow injury and, at the end of the day, the most important thing is your health.

“It’s nice to know the issue isn’t dangerous but I’m going to get a second and third opinion.

“I’m hoping to get this all sorted and be back in the ring soon.”
