IT’LL be good to be back in the 6 jersey in Glasgow tonight and hopefully we can produce a big performance to start a long block of rugby with a bang.

It’s been a frustrating start to the season for the boys because of the World Cup with just three Guinness Pro12 games since we opened up against Connacht in Galway on the first weekend of September.

To be honest that has suited me – I’ve suffered a few niggles and have only been able to play in the first half of our win against Zebre, so I haven’t missed much.

I’ve not been part of a travelling party since the win in Newcastle in January because of the wrist injury I suffered last season so fingers crossed it will be a good return to life on the road.

It will be a tough test against Glasgow even though they are missing so many Scotland players who are preparing for the Aussies rather than us.

Sometimes the ‘deputies’ can present just as big a challenge because they are so enthusiastic and desperate to impress given that the internationals will soon be back in the fold.

The likes of Glasgow and Leinster also have such strength in depth, something that they need if they are to challenge for honours.

It wasn’t long ago that the Warriors were bracketed with us – and our record up there is pretty good – so their success is something for us to aspire to.

They have gone from mid-table to champions thanks to investment in players and facilities; we will head to the very impressive Scotstoun Stadium with its indoor track and no expense spared this evening when we used to play them at Partick Thistle’s ground and Hughenden.

They have made huge strides under Gregor Townsend with Scottish players and some key overseas recruits playing a good brand of running rugby.

Glasgow love to play expansively, especially on their own turf, and we will need good line speed in defence and to be mindful of their offloading, mixing up our tackling.

But hopefully we can cause them some problems in attack and we go there with a positive mentality.

The season before last we enjoyed a momentous win in Glasgow and then backed it up at Rodney Parade, becoming the only side to double them in the Pro12 that year.

We have to attack them and also need to keep the scoreboard ticking – Jason Tovey has 10 from 10 off the tee this season and it’d be great if he keeps that streak going.

We play every weekend until February now so tonight is a great opportunity to really get this season up and running.
