WALES manager Chris Coleman will be naming his squad to face Serbia in next month’s World Cup qualifier in the coming weeks and he’s guaranteed to be asked about Ched Evans yet again.

Coleman has fielded questions on the striker fairly regularly since he took charge of the national team – despite Evans winning the last of his 13 caps in 2011.

In the past few years the national manager has always been able to state that there was no prospect of a Wales recall while the player was still fighting to overturn his conviction for rape in 2012.

But, following the not guilty verdict at last week’s retrial in Cardiff, Evans has already talked about his ambitions of breaking back into the national squad.

"Maybe in the future, depending on how many performances and goals I can score, maybe I can get back in," he told the Mail on Sunday.

"I think it will be a case of just letting the football do the talking and seeing where that takes me."

Whatever you think of Evans and his conduct he has now been found not guilty and the only criteria that should be used to judge whether he should play for Wales again is ability – is he good enough?

Coleman is hardly blessed with top quality strikers but he’s unlikely rush to include the Chesterfield front man, who is also currently injured.

In my view Evans would have to be scoring goals regularly in the Championship or above to come into Coleman’s thinking and that prospect is still a long way off.
