IT’S been a quiet few weeks at Newport County AFC and some fans will have been frustrated by the lack of transfer news coming out of Rodney Parade.

The only player in so far is defender Jamie Turley from Eastleigh and we are still waiting on news of the members of last season’s squad offered new contracts.

It is three weeks now since manager Warren Feeney released eight players and offered new deals to another eight.

But so far not one of Mark Byrne, Andrew Hughes, Alex Rodman, Danny Holmes, Darren Jones, Scott Boden, John-Christophe Ayina and Medy Elito have signed up for next season.

That has to be a little concerning and Feeney is resigned to losing at least two.

In an ideal world you want some stability and continuity from season to season.

We all saw the difficulty Terry Butcher had in putting together a new squad from scratch 12 months ago.

But in a team that finished 90th out of 92 in the English professional ranks there are very few that are irreplaceable.

If captain Byrne, top scorer Boden, the elusive Elito or anyone else is tempted away Feeney will have plenty of potential replacements lined up.

And, as he told the Argus yesterday, he is close to two or three new signings this week.

While their League Two rivals have been announcing new arrivals for the past fortnight, the patience of the County fans should be repaid with some good news soon and possibly as early as today.

Finally, congratulations to AFC Wimbledon after their League Two play-off final victory over Plymouth Argyle at Wembley yesterday.

I for one will miss the annual trip to Kingston but their continual rise up the pyramid can only serve as inspiration for the Exiles.

If only the Wombles could leave us Adebayo Akinfenwa, who signed off with a penalty to seal promotion, as a parting gift. Bring the Beast back to Wales!
