ASK any Hollywood script writer and they’ll tell you that adversity sells.

Be it a man who needs to stop a very big shark, a team surrounded by Dinosaurs brought back to life by David Attenborough’s brother or a US President who must bring down an entire species of alien, triumph after adversity usually sells pretty well at the multiplex.

Had the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park or the shark in Jaws been managed in a matter of moments, there really wouldn’t have been too much dramatic license for Steven Spielberg.

Hopefully it’ll be a similar story at Rodney Parade on Saturday when the Exiles look to bounce back from their defeat at Spotlands. The order of the day? Triumph after adversity.

County were a distant second best at Spotlands for the first time this season and there wasn’t a single positive to take from the game, other than the fact the score could’ve been even more decisive.

Newport’s mounting injury problems have seemingly finally caught up with them and at Rochdale they were torn to shreds by a side that on the day were superior in every regard.

However, the wider scheme of things is that this is a crunch period for County in terms of the kind of campaign they can expect to have. They are currently eight points off the top of League Two and eight points ahead of the relegations places.

In other words, this is a season that could still go either way for the Exiles who have performed admirably with so many players unavailable.

Now they need to respond to Saturday’s loss and they need to work on the basics, namely their ball retention.

In the Conference the Exiles were in virtually every game the stronger and more physically fit side, but that isn’t the case in the Football League.

Newport are still a strong and physically impressive outfit, but they can’t simply bully sides into submission, not often anyway.

York will look to play measured and disciplined football at Rodney Parade and boss Edinburgh will look to find a shape to ensure his side maintain possession.

And if he can do that, and find a recipe for three points, it’ll be the biggest sign yet that County are destined for success in League Two.
