THE Premier League is the weakest it has been for some time, according to many, but if this is the lowest standard we’ve seen, I pray it continues.

This was the most memorable of campaigns and the climax, with Martin Tyler’s pitch-perfect scream of “Aguerooooo-ooooooooo” will live long in the memory, the new Millennium’s Michael Thomas moment.

It’s nice to have new winners.

City bought the title but who didn’t in the PL era?

The title race hasn’t been that exciting since Kenny Dalglish wasn’t a liability in his Blackburn Rovers days and the battle of Manchester is probably only just beginning.

The race for the Champions League was equally enthralling with Arsenal predictably finding some final day of the season comfort to ease home. Five years ago it was lasagne and this season Marton Fulop that maintained the North London status quo.

Maybe one day, but my Spurs cynicism shows no signs of abating. Bet the mortgate on a Chelsea win in Munich.

The relegation battle is rarely settled before the final day and this term was no different, but the surpreme efforts of Swansea and Norwich this term added another layer of unpredictability.

And what of the games? The unthinkable happened: Man United 8 Arsenal 2; Tottenham 1 Man City 5; Man United 1 Man City 6; Chelsea 3 Arsenal 5; Man United 4 Everton 4. Superb stuff.

Man United earned 89 points, won away by a five goal margin three times and yet still didn’t win the Premier League title.

It was a truly phenomenal season in terms of bang for your buck entertainment and if standards are slipping, long may they.

The only issue I’ve had is the continued absence of goalline technology when every other sport seems to have it sorted out. That simply beggars belief.
