SO, this is it. As you read this we are just 24 hours away from the game that will decide our destiny.

After 25 years of pain Newport County AFC could be just 90 minutes away from a return to the Football League.

I can tell you now that the players can’t wait to get out there on that famous pitch at Wembley and cement a place in the history of the club.

We don’t want to be the nearly men. We want to be the men who get this club back where it belongs.

I’ve played a lot of games in the Football League but I’ve never played at Wembley.

It’s a massive occasion and the gaffer has been trying his best to play it down, trying to keep us all calm.

He’s treating it as a normal game and we’re trying to keep relaxed but we all know what it means for us as players, for the fans and for the city of Newport.

It’s been a long 25 years for this club and Wrexham have had their disappointments as well in recent times.

We’ve got to make sure we’re better than them on the day and we get the result.

That’s what we did in both legs of the play-off semi-finals against Grimsby.

I have to be honest, I didn’t really enjoy the game at Rodney Parade last Sunday.

It was all about the result and it was tense but after the game it was unbelievable.

The scenes of celebration were amazing but that will only mean something if we win tomorrow as well.

The fans have been superb all season and to have 6,000 cheering us on was brilliant.

We hope to have the same again or better this weekend but we know that this is a tough time for places like Newport and the tickets are very expensive.

I think the Conference need to look at the situation because if you’ve got a family of four with tickets, travel, food and programmes you’re looking at over £200.

It should have been played somewhere like Villa Park with tickets a lot cheaper because we’d all rather play in a ground that is sold out.

But Wembley is great and hopefully those that do manage to get there will witness a bit of history for Newport County AFC.

We’re doing it for ourselves and the manager and most importantly we want to share what would be a magic moment with the fans.

I don’t think past experiences will count for much once we get on the pitch tomorrow.

People talk about us playing in the FA Trophy final last year and Wrexham winning it at Wembley in March but tomorrow is a completely new experience.

I wasn’t at the club last year but from what I’ve heard it was a great day out for the fans and some of the players saw it like that as well.

This is completely different. No disrespect to the FA Trophy but it is nowhere near as important as this weekend. As a Liverpool fan I was hoping we’d get some nice Armani suits like the Reds wore back in the 1990s but the club have organised special Wembley tracksuits for the big day.

We tried them on at the media day on Thursday and that was a nice moment.

Some of the lads will be watching TV in them now – Lee Minshull probably hasn’t taken his off all week – but I’ll be keeping mine under wraps so I don’t spill my coffee on it. I want to look my best for the big day!
