SINCE my last column two weeks ago, when we were coming off the back of that horrible defeat at Fleetwood, it has been a great time for everyone at the club.

We’ve progressed in the FA Cup, Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and earned a really good win over Hartlepool to move into the play-off places in League Two.

And we’ve done all that with three clean sheets in a row as well – maybe I should not write a column more often!

It’s been a really good few weeks. The results have been good and we’ve got people coming back from injuries and suspensions as well so we’ll be getting stronger.

It’s great to see the likes of Aaron O’Connor, Max Porter and Byron Anthony doing some running and Andy Sandell and Andrew Hughes back in training with the rest of us.

The only negative has been the injury to Chris Zebroski in the first FA Cup game down in Braintree, which is a bad one.

He’s had his operation on his knee now though and we all wish him a speedy recovery because he’s been great for us this season.

The gaffer is bringing in another striker while Chris recovers and that can only be good for us.

He has been very good with his player choices – he brought me in after all – so the new guy coming in will provide competition for places for Conor Washington, Christian Jolley and Danny Crow before Chris and Aaron return.

I played at Braintree and in the JPT against Portsmouth, which was good for me after a few weeks out of the team.

I obviously like playing and being involved and I felt I did well in the two cup games. Since then I’ve been back on the bench but the boys have done well so I can’t complain.

I’ve said before that I want to play every game but I’m old enough to know that I’ll get my chance, just like I did last season, and the gaffer knows what I can do.

I’m expecting to be on the bench again at Cheltenham today but I hope to get on again and help us to our second away win of the season in the league.

People have been pointing out that our away form has been pretty poor compared to our fantastic results at Rodney Parade.

I think we’ve got the best home record in League Two and only the 19th best away record but we’re sixth in the league so we’re not doing too badly.

Of course we want to pick up a few more points away from home, starting today, but we’re going OK.

I’d rather we carry on as we are and really kick on from March onwards because I think if we do that we can win promotion again this year.

We can’t get carried away because we’ve got a tough run of games now before Christmas but I’m really happy with how we’re going so far.

Someone else who is a happy bunny this week is our goalkeeper Lenny Pidgeley, who was at the birth of his baby daughter just a few hours before Tuesday’s win over Braintree.

He’s had a big grin on his face this week but I think the match was a welcome distraction for him – you can’t stay in the hospital for ever and I’m sure he was happy to get out of there and straight into a game.

It reminds me of when my little one was born when I was first at County a few years back now.

I was a postman at the time so I was up early anyway but I was tired when I had to come and play for County on the Saturday with the early feed, the post delivery and the games.

It was one of the reasons I went to Barry to get full-time football.

It can be a burden but Lenny doesn’t have to worry about another job at least so he’ll be fine and we’re all delighted for him.
