SHOOTERS Malcolm Allen and Rhys Price have work to do if they’re to add to Wales’ Commonwealth Games medal haul during the final round of the single skeet today.

Competing in his fifth Commonwealth Games Allen, from Abercarn, sat 17th overnight after picking up 68 points in the opening stage.

The 48-year-old racked up a superb 24 points with his first efforts but fell away as the day progressed to record 23 and 21 points in the final two rounds.

Cypriot Andreas Chasikos leads the way after a perfect day in which he hit all 75 targets, compatriot Georgios Achilleos is second on 74 points and Australia’s Clive Barton sits third on 73 points.

Price, from Abergavenny, delivered a consistent display to sit 21st heading into the final stage of the competition.

The 20-year-old, who celebrates his birthday next week, shot 22 in each of his first two rounds before improving to 23 in the final round to sit on 67 points from his day’s work.

Cwmbran’s Helen Warnes missed out on a medal for the second day running after following up her fourth place in the pair’s competition with tenth in the 50m rifle singles.

The 20-year-old began with a 98 and after a disappointing 96 hit a maximum 100 and a 99 to put herself in the medal frame.

But her final two scores of 97 and 96 saw her miss out on the final place on the podium - taken by pairs partner Johanne Brekke - by seven points SPAR, there for you and our GB athletes, proud supporters since 2004 www.spar.co.uk
