The 2016 fixture list has been released today and Glamorgan are scheduled to face Leicestershire at The SSE SWALEC in their first Championship encounter next season from Sunday 17 April.

Glamorgan will have a final tune-up against Cardiff MCCU a week before to finalise pre-season preparations, whilst there are fixtures against Essex Eagles and Hampshire in back to back home games at the start of the NatWest T20 Blast competition.

Glamorgan’s 2016 fixture schedule has been organised in similar fashion as last season, with a majority of Sunday starts for County Championship cricket and a dominance of Friday nights for NatWest T20 Blast fixtures.

The main change to the schedule is with the Royal London One-Day Cup, which is arranged in two blocks of games rather than one, although the group stage still concludes during the school summer holidays.

The familiarity doesn’t end there, the opening game against Leicestershire is a reversal of last year’s opening four-day fixture, with Leicestershire this time the visitors to Cardiff on the third Sunday in April, which begins six weeks of Championship cricket to begin the season.

The first limited overs match a repeat of last year, with an away trip for the NatWest T20 Blast fixture versus Surrey at the Kia Oval, whilst the first home game is also a repeat of last year against Essex Eagles on a slightly later date of June 1st.

The NatWest T20 Blast group stage fixtures begin and end a little later than 2015, with Glamorgan aiming to start their campaign in similar fashion as last year when a superb triumph against Surrey provided a performance to remember. Indeed the Welsh county will be aiming to make the best possible start in the shortest format, with two home games in three days back to back during half term following the clash against the capital city rivals.

There are four Friday night home games for Glamorgan in the 2016 Blast competition, along with Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday games to complete the set of seven in all, with televised dates to be confirmed.

Glamorgan’s annual trip to Colwyn Bay is in mid-July and they will face Derbyshire in a Championship fixture on the north Wales coast, whilst they host Hampshire in the 50-over competition at St.Helen’s before a four-day game against Sussex at the same seaside venue.

The 2016 season also welcomes a return to New Road to play relegated Worcestershire in the Championship, whilst there’s a return to Hove for a four-day game for the first time since 2010, a T20 clash against Middlesex at Richmond on Friday 8th July and Glamorgan are due to host Pakistan A seven days later at a venue TBC.

The SSE SWALEC will play host to at least two days of international cricket as England return to Wales to play two One-Day Internationals against Sri Lanka on 2nd July and Pakistan on 4th September as the countdown to two global 50-over ICC events coming to England and Wales in 2017 (ICC Champions Trophy) and 2019 (ICC Cricket World Cup) gets ever closer. Tickets for both internationals are on sale at glamorgancricket.com.

Glamorgan's first-class season will commence on Monday 11th April as they meet Cardiff MCCU in a three-day friendly at The SSE SWALEC. Details of start times and also arrangements for pre-season fixtures will be announced in due course.
