MONMOUTH Cricket Club are on the look-out for new players and have just started training for an action-packed campaign ahead.

The club are holding their pre-season indoor senior training on Thursdays at Monmouth Boys School from 6pm to 7pm.

The club were delighted to see new faces and plenty of enthusiasm among the players who joined in with opening session.

The first team are being captained by Ben Turner and will open their third season in Thomas, Carroll Glamorgan and Monmouthshire League Division Three at newly-relegated Vale in May.

Monmouth will also be renewing their rivalry with Monkswood, who have replaced Pencoed, from Bridgend, who have rejoined the Welsh Club Cricket Conference.

The fixtures for the new campaign have just been released and Monmouth will be hoping to improve on a fourth-placed finish last summer.

Monmouth's Sunday team, captained by Liam Stubbs, will have 12 matches in the GB Liners Marches Sunday League, including home and away fixtures against newcomers Ludlow.

Meanwhile, chairman Martin Newell and vice-chairman Ian Morgan remain committed to the club's dream of installing a two-bay permanent outdoor net facility at Monmouth Sports Ground which would boost the junior section and the local community.

And the club have just secured money for former first-team captain Paul Swingwood to take the newly-designed ECB level two coaching course.

The club are planning to host Gwent Youth representative matches this summer and, once again, be the home ground for the Welsh disabled cricket team.
