GWENT’S Mark Wallace has committed his future to Glamorgan, writes Michael Pearlman.

The record breaking wicket-keeper batsmen Mark Wallace has extended his contract with the Welsh county until the end of season 2016.

Wallace is the most successful wicket-keeper batsman in Glamorgan's history, and in 2011 he became the first gloveman for the Welsh county to amass over 1,000 first-class runs in a season, breaking the Club record of 959 which had been set in 1923 by Jimmy Stone.

'Wally' made his Glamorgan debut in 1999 against Somerset at Taunton, and at 17 years and 287 days old he duly became the Club's youngest wicket-keeper in a County Championship match.

In the course of the next few years, he also represented England Under 19s, before becoming Glamorgan's regular wicket-keeper in four-day cricket from 2001, winning his county cap aged just 21 in 2003.

In 2012, Mark Wallace became Club Captain and during Glamorgan's LVCC match at Canterbury, he passed Eifion Jones' Club record for the highest aggregate of runs by a specialist wicket-keeper.

This year has been Mark Wallace's Benefit Year and he has continued to captain the side in the LV=County Championship whilst also stepping up to be Chairman of the PCA and posting a career-best score in List A cricket with an unbeaten 118 against Gloucestershire in Cardiff and led Glamorgan to a Lords final.

Wallace said: "From being Glamorgan's youngest-ever wicket-keeper, I have enjoyed becoming Club Captain and one of the senior players.

"I'm very happy to extend my stay with the Club and having sampled leading the side to play in a showpiece final at Lord's this year it has only made me and the rest of the dressing room more determined to continue to achieve future success with Glamorgan."
