A BUDGET overnight-stay chain is to add three extra storeys to its hotel in Basildon after revealing its business is booming.

Premier Inn has put forward an application for an £875,000 expansion to its hotel in Festival Leisure Park, and says demand is so high it is also looking to enlarge its three other premises in Basildon.

The chain says people are flock to stay in their hotels and they claim the town should be looking to promote itself more.

The hotel has submitted plans to Basildon Council for a three storey extension, which will incorporate 21 extra rooms, as people have to be turned away from the building at weekends and other busy times.

Its developers looked at several sites in the town centre when deciding how to offer more rooms in Basildon to customers but concluded the town centre is not the best option.

Graham Hedley, Senior Project and Programme Manager for Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants, said: “All four of our Basildon Premier Inn hotels are trading well and our hotel at Festival Leisure Park is proving very popular with our customers. ]

"We are responding to this demand with our planning application for a 20-bedroom extension to the 64-bedroom hotel to offer more choice and availability to our customers."
