A pastor believes an event at his Edmonton church was the “tip of the iceberg” in helping the homeless.

Bread of Heaven International Ministries reached out to homeless people in the borough on Sunday, when it provided free food and entertainment for those sleeping rough.

Those who have nowhere to go were treated to jerk chicken and other Caribbean delights.

Pastor Benjamin Holmes said: “It was an absolutely wonderful day for all involved. We are trying to build up the homeless so they can feel confidence in themselves once more. We wanted to let them all know that homeless people are welcome regardless of their background.”

Fundraiser at the chapel Josh Perkins said: “It was great to reach out to the homeless and people should not be put off because it is a church; the event has nothing to do with religion.

“We were very pleased with how it went, and everyone who came really enjoyed themselves. We hope to make this a twice-a-year event.”
