Over 90 litres of dodgy booze was seized in a series of raids.
Trading Standards officers seized the alcohol thanks to tip-offs from the public and police.
Seventy-five litres of wine and 15 litres of spirits were taken off shelves in three shops in Sutton, Rosehill and Wallington during the last month.
Councillor Richard Clifton, lead member for Sutton Council Trading Standards, said: “This is an excellent example of Sutton’s training standards officers working with officers from other agencies to crack down on counterfeit goods.
“It is especially important as counterfeit alcohol can contain harmful chemicals and be extremely dangerous.”
Counterfeit alcohol has hit the headlines recently after batches have been found to contain chemicals that can cause serious nerve damage and cause drinkers to pass out and develop numbness in their bodies.
The shopkeepers found selling the bottles, which had not had duty paid on them, will receive free training and information on how to tackle underage customers later this month.
