NEWPORT Gwent Dragons have some welcome selection headaches looming after being boosted by the return of three locks and a centre.

The Rodney Parade region has been down to the bare bones in the Guinness Pro12 but things are looking up for Fridays's LV= Cup opener against Harlequins.

Cory Hill (ankle), Joe Davies (shoulder) and Andrew Coombs (knee) are included in the squad for the clash at the Twickenham Stoop, allowing the region to rest in-form South African Rynard Landman for the first time this season and play James Thomas in his preferred back row role.

And centre Ross Wardle, who has been out since rupturing knee ligaments against Treviso in April, is back in training and in contention to return against the Quins.

The Dragons have had to play wings Tom Prydie and Matthew Pewtner at outside centre in the absence of Wardle, Pat Leach (knee), Tyler Morgan (knee) and Jack Dixon (wrist).

"It's excellent to have some bodies out there in training," said head coach Kingsley Jones. "The biggest impact that injuries have is in terms of lack of competition and lack of preparation.

"Everyone has injuries but the hardest thing is when they are all in a position. Hopefully soon we will have everyone fit and chomping at the bit then that will drive us on to get better results.

"We are very mindful of the return of the league and want a big performance at home against Munster (on November 22) but we also need to win and get momentum and confidence.

"It would be nice to have a good performance against Harlequins and the Ospreys leading into that game against Munster, when we will hopefully have even more people back."

The Dragons are also set to give a debut to new South African tighthead Brok Harris at the Twickenham Stoop.

The 29-year-old has enjoyed his first week of training with the region following his exploits with Currie Cup winners Western Province.

"The sooner we introduce Brok the better," said Jones. "He is keen as mustard and is knocking on the door and wants to play.

"But David Young deserves an opportunity as well and tighthead is one position that we have been blessed with so far.

"Brok has fitted in straight away and having another South African here in Rynard has helped him."

The Dragons are, however, down to their last two hookers in Elliot Dee and Hugh Gustafson after Rhys Thomas suffered a shoulder injury against Ulster last weekend.

The 31-year-old fell heavily when attempting to prevent Stuart Olding's second score but it is hoped he will be back for the Guinness Pro12 encounter against Munster at Rodney Parade in a fortnight.

Hooker Rhys Buckley is out for three months after rupturing a pectoral muscle in training, leaving the region contemplating a move for another hooker.
