TYLER Morgan admits that the Six Nations debut is unlikely but the teenage centre is desperate to impress Wales boss Warren Gatland in World Cup year.

The uncapped 19-year-old from Caerleon is one of five centres in a 34-strong squad, joining up with Jamie Roberts, Jonathan Davies, Scott Williams and Cory Allen.

The wealth of midfield options means that Morgan, who featured on the wing in last year's Junior World Championship, is likely to be playing for the Under-20s against England in Colwyn Bay rather than at the Millennium Stadium for the seniors on opening weekend.

But it is a case of when not if the teenager plays on the Test scene and the carrot of a place in the World Cup squad is dangling in front of the entire squad.

"I am over the moon to be called up, it was completely unexpected," said Morgan, who signed a national dual contract in December.

"There are a lot of good centres in Wales so I didn't think that I'd fit in but luckily I did and it's come a lot earlier than I expected.

"I'd love to get a look-in but I am not expecting to – it will probably be the usual midfield – but I'd love any opportunity and just to be in with that group of players is massive for me, hopefully I can impress and be involved in the World Cup preparation.

"It's going to be a great experience for me and a great way of developing my game, I'll have to learn off the players around me.

"If the coaches want to give me an opportunity I will take it with arms open but I'm just happy to be in the squad."

Morgan couldn't have timed it better to have a man-of-the-match performance, scoring a try and causing Newcastle all manner of problems in the region's stunning European Rugby Challenge Cup win in the north east.

"I have been given lots of opportunities by Lyn (Jones, Dragons director of rugby) and with the Under-20s to show what I can do and I think that I have taken them," he said.

"I've managed to catch the eye and was happy with my performance against Newcastle, which put down a marker a few days before the squad was named.

"It will be a bit shocking to be on the same training field as the other boys but hopefully I will settle in quickly and be comfortable there."

Morgan is joined by teammates Taulupe Faletau and Hallam Amos in the squad and Gatland said it was nearly a Dragons quartet.

With Scarlets pair Ken Owens and Emyr Phillips injured Kristian Dacey got the nod as back-up for Richard Hibbard and Scott Baldwin but in-form hooker Elliot Dee is also on the Wales boss' radar.
