NEWPORT Gwent Dragons director of rugby Lyn Jones says Rynard Landman has been given a "kick in the pants" following his dismissal against Connacht but hailed his 14 other players for digging deep for a bonus point, writes Chris Kirwan.

The Dragons were downed 30-25 at Rodney Parade after playing for 66 minutes without their captain, who was red-carded for elbowing fly-half Jack Carty when attempting a charge down.

However, his teammates showed tremendous spirit to emerge with something to show for their efforts thanks to wing Hallam Amos' try at the death.

Landman, who has enjoyed a superb first season at Rodney Parade, tweeted after the game: "I am ashamed of my decision today! I let myself my club and most of all my team down! This is not what I stand for!"

And Jones said: "It is a kick in the pants for him to understand his responsibility and roles as an overseas player and as a captain while Lee Byrne is out. There's no need to raise an arm when charging a kick down."

"We are not going to win anything with 14 men on the field. It was too much for any team that's why the effort was so pleasing," he continued. "We showed a lot of character, ability and endeavour."
