JACK Dixon is playing the waiting game as the Newport Gwent Dragons centre dreams of a place in Wales’ World Cup training squad.

The 20-year-old from Newbridge will find out on Monday, June 8 whether he has made Warren Gatland’s extended squad for the England 2015 preparations.

Dixon is uncapped but has previously earned the praise of the Wales head coach, who has a reputation for giving youth a chance.

And the Dragons centre, who has been in superb form in the second half of the season, would relish the chance to be put through his paces alongside Jamie Roberts, Jonathan Davies, Scott Williams and teammate Tyler Morgan.

“It’s at the back of my mind and I’d love to be in the mix for the World Cup squad but it’s out of my hands,” he said.

“I’ve just been concentrating on my own performances and feel that I hit of form towards the end of the season, so it’s down to Warren Gatland now.”

Dixon had the final say of the Dragons’ season when he crossed at the death for a bonus point in the 50-27 loss to title hopefuls Munster in Cork.

Lyn Jones’ charges finished ninth and made it to the semi-finals of the European Rugby Challenge Cup thanks to strong post-November form.

“We have come on massively since the start of the season when we were hit by injury,” said Dixon, who missed three months with a wrist injury before playing 18 of 19 games from his December return.

“We have gelled as a team and know each others’ games a bit better. There were a lot of good performances and wins that we can take into next season to build again.

“Doing the double over Leinster is something that we are really proud of and we are getting more confident as a squad. We know that we need to keep improving and that we have to be more consistent.”
