NEWPORT Gwent Dragons captain Rhys Thomas has been cleared of biting an opponent in last week’s win against Castres.
The 33-year-old former Wales hooker appeared before a disciplinary committee in London after being cited for an alleged bite in the victory at Rodney Parade that sealed a place in the European Challenge Cup quarter-finals.
Thomas, a replacement in the fixture, had gone to the ground when chasing a loose ball in the 67th minute and television footage showed Castres flanker Yannick Caballero slapping him in the face before complaining to Irish official Peter Fitzgibbon while pointing to his right arm.
The Dragons front row forward denied any wrongdoing and Scottish judicial officer Rod McKenzie deemed there was no evidence of foul play.
Thomas will now lead his side into action in the Pool Two decider against Sale tomorrow evening.
