THE SCARLETS will rest Wales internationals Jonathan Davies and Jake Ball against Newport Gwent Dragons on Saturday but on-loan loosehead prop Luke Garrett could feature against his employers.

Davies and Ball, who are both on national dual contracts, will sit out the derby in Llanelli (kick-off 7.35pm) ahead of their European Champions Cup dates against Sale and champions Saracens in a challenging pool that also pits the west Walians against French heavyweights Toulon in the December double-header.

The pair featured in the opening four rounds of the Guinness Pro12 but sat out last weekend's 22-6 win in Treviso and will once again watch from the sidelines.

Wales international Scott Williams is set to be partnered by Hadleigh Parkes in midfield while former Cross Keys forward Lewis Rawlins and South African David Bulbring were locks in Italy, backed up by Rynier Bernardo.

Garrett, meanwhile, could make his fourth appearance for the Scarlets despite being on loan from the Dragons.

There is nothing in the deal to prevent the 21-year-old from Tredegar playing against his parent club and the loosehead has also been named in the west Walians' squad for their daunting European Champions Cup campaign that pits them against Saracens, Toulon and Sale.

Garrett has come off the bench three times as deputy for Wyn Jones since heading west as emergency cover following Wales international Rob Evans' wrist injury.

The former Wales Under-20s prop, who made four appearances as a replacements for the Dragons including a debut against the Scarlets at Judgement Day in 2015, is behind Phil Price, Sam Hobbs and Thomas Davies in the pecking order at Rodney Parade while Keagan Bale, 20, is also on the books.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for Luke to gain experience, which will benefit the Dragons in the long term," said head coach Kingsley Jones in September.
