SHAUN Connor is happy Newport Gwent Dragons are on a roll at Rodney Parade ahead of their Guinness Pro12 clash with Edinburgh, although the backs coach admits there’s work to be done after a sluggish first half against the Scarlets.

After successes against Brive and Connacht, the Dragons made it three Newport wins on the spin by beating the men from Llanelli 36-21 in the Anglo-Welsh Cup.

Tries by centre Sam Beard (2), lock Nick Crosswell, full-back Carl Meyer and blindside flanker Harri Keddie secured the spoils, although they were helped on their way to victory by a red card shown to Scarlets back rower Jack Condy.

The former Cross Keys man was dismissed in the 45th minute for a punch when the Scarlets were leading 16-10 and the Dragons took advantage to record a bonus-point win.

Connor said: “We’re not so happy with the performance but the result was good for us. We were quite sloppy in the first half but were more accurate in the second; not so good first half, pleased with the second half.

“We always knew it would take time to wear them down and knew it would come down to the last 15 to 20 minutes.

“Now we go into Edinburgh in the Guinness Pro12 (a week on Sunday) with a lot of confidence after winning three on the bounce at home. The crowd were fantastic again, so we are looking to give them something to cheer.

“Edinburgh are in and around us in the table so it’s a fixture that we’ve got to target if we’ve got aspirations to climb the table.”

The win means the Dragons will return to Anglo-Welsh Cup action in the New Year with a chance of topping Pool One and qualifying for the semi-finals.

They trail Northampton by three points and Saracens by two with a trip to Gloucester and home clash with Newcastle to come.
