NEWPORT Gwent Dragons' late collapse in Edinburgh wasn't just costly in the Guinness PRO12 table as a pair of yellow cards at the death looks to have put them out of the running for the cash prize for winning the Specsavers fairplay league.

The chart rewards the team with the Championship’s best disciplinary record with £10,000 to spend on a youth development programme.

Points are awarded for yellow and red cards, warnings from citing commissioners and upheld citings that result in suspensions.

Connacht currently lead the way after having just five players sin-binned, although they haven't been punished in the chart for star centre Bundee Aki being suspended for three matches for remarks made towards Welsh referee Ian Davies after last month’s defeat to Leinster.

The Ospreys are in second in the table while the Dragons slipped to third after the dramatic finale at Myreside when Charlie Davies and Nic Cudd were shown yellow for killing the ball in the 22, taking their seasonal tally to seven.

Sarel Pretorius, Carl Meyer, Rynard Landman, Adam Hughes and Brok Harris have also been sin-binned this season while Nick Crosswell was given a citing commissioner’s warning for a dangerous tackle against Cardiff Blues on Boxing Day.

Meanwhile, Dragons skipper Lewis Evans looks likely to narrowly miss out on the honour of being the PRO12’s top tackler.

The back row forward sits second in the rankings on 231 and trails Ulster flanker Sean Reidy by 13 going into final weekend.

Evans is also the Dragons' leading ball carrier this season and the skipper, sixth in the PRO12 rankings, needs just four more against Cardiff Blues to pass 200.

Flanker Ollie Griffiths is third in the rankings for turnovers won with 20, five behind Leinster's Dan Leavy and seven back on another Wales hopeful, the Scarlets' James Davies.

Fly-half Angus O'Brien goes into the final weekend with a chance of being the PRO12's top points scorer. He currently sits third on 123 behind Munster's Tyler Bleyendaal (123) and Cardiff Blues' Steve Shingler (128).
