FORMER Ospreys centre David Bishop will have the chance to push his cause for a Newport Gwent Dragons contract in Penzance tomorrow evening.

The 26-year-old is on trial at Rodney Parade and will be on the bench for the pre-season friendly against Cornish Pirates.

Bishop was considered a bright prospect and was called up to train with Wales before a split kneecap led to two-and-a-half years out of the game.

He made 16 appearances for Sale Sharks last season but made a summer departure from the Aviva Premiership club, where ex-Dragons flanker James Harris has been on trial.

“We were asked whether David could train with us and we were delighted to welcome him into our organisation,” said team manager Robert Beale.

“However, at the moment we don’t have room to sign him in our budget and if he impresses then it gives me a bit of a headache.”

One player who is set to be confirmed as a Dragon is promising wing Jamie Davies, who has agreed terms on a one-year deal.

The former Wales Under-20s international’s move will be confirmed once his transfer documentation comes through from Carmarthen Quins, for whom he had a storming end to last season.
