NEWPORT Gwent Dragons cult hero Aled Brew has revealed he would love to return to play for his old region again in the future.
The 25-year-old wing has joined Amlin Challenge Cup champions Biarritz on a two-year deal after five seasons at Rodney Parade.
Brew first joined them from the Ospreys on a season long loan in 2006 and then again three years later on a permanent basis.
The 6ft 1in and 15st 13lb powerhouse was a firm favourite with Dragons fans and is the region’s record try scorer with 43 touchdowns in 108 games.
On a possible return to Rodney Parade, Brew said: “I had some really good times with the Dragons and I had a good chat with them before I left.
“They said they would welcome me back there at any point which is nice to know.
“I wouldn’t think about going to another region. I probably would go back there if I was going back to a Welsh region because they’ve been so good to me and I’ve still got good mates there and I get on with all the coaches.
“The coaches at the Dragons knew what my attributes were and always had faith in me.”
But, meanwhile, Brew can’t wait for his new life in the south of France where he will be a near neighbour of Wales and Lions star Mike Phillips, who plays for their deadly rivals Bayonne, which is just five miles from Biarritz.
“I’m really looking forward to it,” said Brew, who won his ninth cap for Wales against the Barbarians on Saturday.
“We’ve found a house for the family and it looks like a great place to live with beautiful beaches and lovely local food and cheese and we’re just half an hour away from Spain “I’m taking two French lessons a week but as soon as you’re engrossed in the language and speaking it every day, I’m sure it’ll be okay.
“I’m bilingual and speak a bit of Welsh. I’m sure my boy will pick French up quicker than me.
“He’s six now and is already teaching me some words in Welsh.”
But his move to the Basque region will have to be put on a temporary hold after Brew was selected to tour Australia for Wales’ three-Test tour this month.
