FOUR of Torfaen Football Coaching Academy’s under-14s have been selected for the Wales regional squad training camp at Dragon Park in Newport next week.

Lewis Madley, Mervyn Davies, Alex Nicholls and Luca Rabbaiotti will get the chance to show off their skills when they attend the trial on April 11.

Having a quartet of under-14s being picked for a camp is a first for the academy in its history, and inclusion in the final regional squad would take the boys a step closer to representing their country.

The Torfaen centre has been entering representative squads in Welsh schools competitions for almost a decade, with a fully-accredited FAW academy running in Torfaen for the last two years.

Development (under-10s, 11s, 13s and 15s) and academy (12s, 14s and 16s) squads offer players an opportunity to get into Welsh League and professional football.

Under-14s keeper Callum Brain was recently signed by Newport County AFC after being scouted by the Exiles while playing in academy fixtures for Torfaen.

Academy squads play in the FAW academy games programme against Welsh League academies at grounds including Barry’s Jenner Park and Richmond Park in Carmarthen.

Player development is the top priority for the volunteer coaches, while there is also a coaching programme for outgoing under-16s should they wish to stay involved with the academy.
