County 2 Tamworth 2

NEWPORT County AFC saw victory snatched away by a controversial stoppage time penalty at Rodney Parade.

County led 2-0 with 20 minutes to go thanks to first half strikes by Scott Donnelly and Byron Anthony.

But recalled goalkeeper Lenny Pidgeley was stretchered off on 72 minutes and replacement Alan Julian's first job was to pick the ball out of the net after Lee Hendrie's shot was deflected in.

The Lambs earned a point in the third minute of time added on when Adam Cunnington sent Julian the wrong way from the spot.

At home, 2-0 up with twenty minutes to go againt a mid table side is hardly promotion form!

Hmmm. 20 minutes to go and two nil up and we can only manage a draw. Oh yes and we give a penalty away in the dying moments. This is not the first time we have seemed to be in control and nervously let things slip. Perhaps these players could do with seeing a shrink (sorry sports psychologist) from time to time ! And thank goodness J.E. has ignored the impassioned pleas for some new defenders when we so obviously don't need them !

How many chances did we actually create in this game ?
We sat back in the second half and this is the result, only when Ben swallow came on did we look a threat when he did something the rest could not manage!----------- actually running with the ball and taking them on .
Mansfield is a BIG GAME on Tuesday !

Mansfield must be chanting at the bit to go against County defence. 8 against Barrow. How many at Newport. Thank goodness I watch "Death in Paradise" so won't have to listen to the radio. But come on County try to keep the score down as much as you can.

I could not believe my eyes today.
This was a DISASTER.
It was utterly desperate in the second half when the game should have been wrapped up.
2-0 up at 72 minutes against yet another two bit team and County pressed the panic button when the injured goalkeeper was substituted, then immediately conceded a goal. The last gasp penalty was a needless, stupid giveaway. What was the "defense"(??) thinking about? What on earth has happened to this team?
Next Tuesday might very well be the last game for me this season.I travel 40 miles to see the matches and I really have had enough now of the continuing disappointment of the chance for promotion being thrown away by a team and manager that just can't hack it. Just not good enough!

The turning point in the game was when Pidgeley went off - we were cruising at that stage. Lenny was having an excellent game and commanding his box - the defence has confidence in him. Julian comes on and the defence (and the crowd) looks nervous. The last time we kept a clean sheet was October when Pidgeley was in goal -sorry, but Alan Julian is a jinx. As for the referee and the linesman, they were a disgrace - Swallow was fouled and he gets booked and a minute later they are given a nothing penalty. Several dodgy decisions preceding that as well. Thought Byron Anthony and Lee Minshull played well yesterday and it was a good performance up until Lenny Pidgeley went off - hope he's fit for Tuesday

sorry to disagree, but Anthony did not have a good game. he only managed one defensive header all through the game, miss timed his clearance kicks and was muscled off the ball on most of his challenges. he simply isn`t good enough, when Pidgeley went off you could see the nerves appear, a keeper who is decisive in the box is needed, Julian was like a rabbit caught in the headlights. i have resigned myself to a mid table finish. the manger must be given a bigger financial war chest for next season, if we want any chance of promotion. you cannot succeed on a shoe string.

Minshull had a good game, i agree with comments re Byron Anthony, not quite up to the mark.
A mid table performance definately!

Newport County manager Justin Edinburgh told BBC Radio Wales:

"The decision's wrong. It's cost us two points. I spoke with the referee and he changed his description of the incident twice from when I confronted him on the pitch to when I've seen him in his dressing room. That tells me he doesn't know what he's seen and he's guessed

Come on you moaners keep the faith. yes County can have their off days as do all teams. But remember Luton and Cambridge at home, and Lincoln and Forest Green away.

We are still in a strong position, if not the driving seat, there will be plenty of twists and turns before the season ends!

Keep the faith, this is a big boys' league with many ex football league clubs. County are still there and in with a chance of at least making the play-offs.

We might make the play offs if we can string a few results together, I don't think we are consistent enough though to win the league

agreed teams do have off days, but surely not as many as us.and yes we are still in a good position, and some scores are not doing us much harm, but it cannot continue like this. i hope in the loan period he can obtain a couple of defenders, and keeper. our rivals seem to have no difficullty, maybe their managers know the combination lock on the purses.

That means out of 15 games since the 9th October County have had 10 "off days!" This is the team that was top of the league for weeks and weeks! As the singer Paul Simon would say " Slip Slidin' away" We are not in a strong position now because we do not have a strong enough defense and that is down to the manager's decision not to go for defenders in the transfer window. We leak goals. I am not looking forward to the Mansfield game one bit. Sad but I just do not see these players turning it around now.

Don't understand JE being " happy " with the squad when it's glaringly obvious that we need a few in- any fan could tell you that.
As regards the match , as soon as Pidgely went off, the defence capitulated. If he's out for long we definitely need a keeper as well.
The officials, as usual, were atrocious but we so seldom seem to get the rub of the green - whatever happened to " homers " ?
